They are, just not the ones you think.  Maybe I'm gruesome but I check out the deaths page in Wikipedia and on the 20th Larry Miller, not the comedian, and Christopher Nolan, not the director, died.

Castro Theatre honored Donald Westlake by showing 2 movies tonight based on a couple Richard Stark novels.  First one was Point Blank, one of my favorite movies and I jumped at the chance to see it at the big screen.  The second movie was The Outfit and the movie schedule made it sound like it was going to be an awesome movie, it is there job, but I didn't give enough weight to the fact that Joe Don Baker was in the movie.  It's not that I have a hate on for Joe Don Baker but seriously, when was the last time you saw a great Joe Don Baker movie.  Totally didn't matter because I loved seeing Point Blank at the Castro Theatre.

And I saw [info]kradical is coming to Wondercon.  Star Trek authors mostly seem to be East Coast folks.  Looking forward to seeing him again.  When he and [info]terri_osborne were signing at the Star Trek Experiance in Las Vegas Claudia and I used that as an excuse to make one of our semi-anual Vegas trips.

Saw Charlie Hunter for the first time in years, since he moved to New York.  Scott Amendola's 40 birthday at Cafe Du Nord.  Fun show.  Before they started we were sitting at the only table we could find, be the pool table.  Some guy asked us if we could move for a second because he had to make a shot, he said he was only asking because it was the 8-ball.  We laughed and moved.   After a few minutes I told Claudia "I think that's Charlie Hunter".  It was.   Music was good but we left after the first set.  We're too told to stand that long in a crowded room.

But it did remind me of all the musicians I used to see here in San Franscisco before they moved to New York.
- Charlie Hunter
- Jenny Scheinman
- Adam Levy
- Mia Masaoka
- Trevor Dunn

I'm sure there are more but that's all I can think of right now.

While at what I call the "rude bookstore" to my wife today I was told they didn't want me looking at my blackberry.  I told them I wasn't making a call, I was looking over my list of authors to make sure I had everything I wanted and they said I needed to go outside to do that.  I said "Are you telling me I can't look at my shopping list, which I keep on my phone" and he just repeated that I can't use my phone in the store.  I said you just lost a customer and walked out.

I'm not saying I'm there biggest customer or anything but I went there often enough the women who owns the place recognized me when I went in.  Part of the reason I went there was the entertainment I got from them hassling just about anybody who walked in for a wide variety of reasons.  They aren't exactly the best book store in town.  We love our bookstores in San Francisco and these folks rate a 2 on yelp, no one else comes even close to scoring that low.  One of the complaints I heard many many times was how little money they make and I guess they will have to live without mine.  Not a big deal for me but man, those people are sad...

Bob Wilkins, host of Creature Features, passed away yesterday.  I used to watch his show most Saturday nights on channel 3, the NBC affiliate at the time, in Sacramento.  He had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease the last few years and had retired to Reno.  There was a booth selling compilation DVD's of his shows at Comic con last year with the proceeds going to pay his medical bills.  I bought one, it brought back a lot of memories.

OK, maybe I'm a jerk for saying this but Claudia changing her mind about wanting to go to her companies Christmas Party, we didn't go, made me happy.  And we had dinner at Tommy's Joynt, one of my favorite places to eat even if it is only a hofbrau.

But that happiness was wiped out when I found out about Majel Barrett Roddenberry's passing...

guess i'll do the meme everyone else is doing.

tuesday - claudia made reservations for us to go through the neon sign museum in las vegas when we go there for the new years weekend.  i've been wanting to do that for awhile.  she sent an email with the reservation info saying if i didn't want to go we could cancel.  i wrote back saying "ARE YOU KIDDING? I so want to go".

wednesday - while moving some of the wedding gifts around, ok, we haven't unpacked all the dishes yet but we're starting, i found the cover to the star trek comic book dvd i thought i had lost.  i had the dvd but it was kind of annoying thinking i had lost the cover.  not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but i'm glad i found it.

We were going to to Jenny's place in Hidden Valley Lake but Jenny had some minor surgery and we weren't into going by ourselves much then Claudia got sick.  We ended up just hanging out at the house having a Fringe marathon to finally catch up.

Today I want to the gym, been skipping it all week, and Kayo Books.  I didn't know the stairs led to more books.  I thought it was storage but that's where the science fiction is.  And I finished up Masks, an old TNG book.

Claudia and I got married this morning.  I never thought I would be typing that sentence, about anybody, not just Claudia.

The ceremony was very nice, with Sheldon as a great officiant, and I wasn't nearly as nervous as I thought I would be.  The reception was great too.  Claudia's planning, and it was all her planning, I'm not stealing any credit, was fantastic.  The band, the florist, the garden where the ceremony took place and the jazz club where the reception were held was all wonderful and Claudia did a great job with everything.

I'm not really tired, it's not even 8:00PM, we got married at noon,  but my legs are beat from mid thigh down.  We're just hanging in the room.  Claudia's reading and I will be too soon.

I'm very relieved it's over.  I don't really feel comfortable being the center of attention but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be because it's all about the bride.  (The part in italics was added on Claudia's insistence.)

Now it's off to Kauai on Tuesday for the honeymoon...

4. Link back to that entry here.

[info]bill_leisner  gave me a J.  At first I thought "why didn't he just make it a Z" but it turned out to be easier than I thought.  (btw, check out his new book, I loved it)

James T Kirk - An obvious choice, our hero from the show that still takes a lot of my attention

Jules Winnfield - The cool guy from "Pulp Fiction".  After Reservoir Dogs then this I thought Tarantino was a guy I was going to look forward to seeing his movies for years to come but I've enjoyed each one since then less and less

Jack Shaftoe - "Half-Cocked" Jack, King of the Vagabonds, Jack the Coiner, arch-nemesis of Issac Newton in The Baroque Cycle.  Had to include a Neal Stephenson character since I saw him tonight and got Anathem sighned.

John Steed - The main guy in The Avengers but we all watched that show for the women.

Jordan Collier - Played by the best actor in the series.  Always added something to every episode he was in.
